Babylonian Calculation of Pi

The ancient Babylonians constructed structures, often religious in nature, which often included massive arches.

Ancient Babylonian tablets reveal calculations for the area of a circle, calculated as 3 times the square of the radius, giving an inherent value of pi = 3. At least one tablet, dating from the period 1900 - 1680 BCE gives a closer approximation for pi of 3.125.
